Through the Cracks was a 45-minute long walk for up to eight people through Manhattan’s Tin Pan Alley, birthplace of American popular music. Participants explored the sepia-stained music seeping through the cracks of the city’s sidewalks, and used sound as a portal through which to discover the enchanted, hidden life buried in the neighborhood. The groups sang and walked forwards, backwards, and in time-stretched loops, as memory intertwined with the present to create a moving and layered collage. This walk was led several times throughout the course of a weekend in July 2011.
